Properties

Functional groups

Polymetric matrix Polypropilene fiber with graft copolymer of styrene and divinilbenzene (Fig 1).
Physical forms Non-woven needle-punctured fabric with surface density of 250 - 1000 g/m2, staple. Diameter of the filaments 40 µ. Color: light brown. Width of the fabric up to 160 cm, thickness 3 - 12 mm, the volume density is 0.1 kg/dm3. Compression till 0.25 kg/dm3 is possible.
Optimal capacity meq/g 3.0. The materials can be produced with the greater or smaller exchange capacity.
Optimal swelling,

1.0. The materials can be produced with the greater or smaller swelling.
pH working range 0 - 14
Temperature working range 0 - 100° C. Short-time heating up to 140°C.
Stability against aggressive media Stable against concentrated HCl, H2SO4, NaOH and all organic solvents.
Osmotic stability Stable in cycles of acid-alkali alternative treatment and drying-wetting.

Applicatios

Air purification
  • In filters for the deep air purification from ammonia, amines, nitrogen-containing heterocycles, aerosols of alkalis (including in clean rooms in the electronic and pharmaceutical industries). The ion exchanger does not pollute the air with volatile impurities.
  • In respirators and gas masks or stationary installations for purification of a respiratory air from same impurities, also from bad smelling substances.
  • In smoking rooms from cigarettes-smoke components.
Water purification and the seperation of solutes
  • Finishing purification of deionization water, intermembrane filling in electrodialyzers (electronic industry, laboratory practice) in a combination with a fibrous anion exchanger.
  • Water softening (small-size plants).
  • Sorption, extraction and separation of organic ionizible substances (antibiotics, dyes, vitamins etc.). (Fig.2).
  • Concentrating of ions for analysis of dilute solutions.
Catalysis
  • Acid catalysis, for example: synthesis of metyl-tret-alkyl ethers, isomerization of olefins and dehydration of alcohols.
  • Reduction-oxidation catalysis.

Advantages

High rate of ion exchange, sorption and catalytic processes Mono-fibers FIBAN K-1 have diameter about 40 microns that corresponds to granular ion exchanger with a dispersivity 400 mesh.
The rate of processes on such ion exchangers is by of one to two order of magnitude higher, than on the granular ion exchangers, used in the water purification, where the application of highly dis-persed resins is impossible because of a high resistance of the filtering bed for liquids or gases flow (Fig.3).
Low resistance of the filtering layer to liquids or gases flows The resistance of the filtering layer of the FIBAN K-1 depends on the density of filling, which is determined by the textile form or additional thickening.
For processes of air purification optimum of the layers density is 0.1 kg/dm3, and thickness of the layer - 3 - 10 mm.
